COOKING LIGHT 2004 FIT HOUSE BEGINS DESIGN PHASE

EVERGREEN, Colorado, April 14, 2003 – Ken Pieper & Associates, Inc. (KPA) has been selected
to design the Cooking Light Magazine 2004 Fit House. KPA will integrate its over 35 years of experience
into the design and construction documents used to build this home. The Fit House will be located in
Castle Rock, Colorado in the Escavera community.

Fit House is a home designed, built and furnished for living fit. Together with a team consisting of a
residential designer, builder, interior designer and generous sponsors, this project produces a concept
home like no other. All elements of the home exemplify the healthy lifestyle that is the cornerstone of
the Cooking Light philosophy.

With schematic designs underway, the fit-orientation of this home is already taking shape. The KPA
design will reflect healthy lifestyle choices from many perspectives. The design emphasis integrates
environmentally sound selections and cost effective solutions with an atmosphere that encourages
physical and mental well-being.

Here is a sampling of the concepts that will be present in KPA’s final Fit House design:

  • Siting for passive climate control, both heating and cooling
  • Outdoor living areas in tune with an active lifestyle
  • Natural elements, such as stone and recycled, hand-hewn timbers, to emphasize structural
permanence and a connection to our earth
  • Room locations in harmony with daily body rhythms (ex: breakfast area that sets circadian
    rhythms with use of light)
  • Segmented design that provides both private areas and multipurpose rooms
  • Stress-free living facilitated through easy traffic flow
